After news of Paypal buying Pinterest, CEO Ben Silbermann’s net worth surges to $3.8 billion

Pinterest CEO Ben Silbermann’s net worth has skyrocketed as talks for a potential sale to PayPal continue. Paypal is considering making a bid for buying the image sharing based social media platform for $45 billion.

This would make Silbermann, who owns nearly 8% stake of the company, one of the youngest billionaires ever, with an estimated net worth of $3.8 billion. He’s only 34!

If this deal goes through, he’ll be added to a list of other Silicon Valley executives who have become billionaires before the age of 35, including Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley.

Silbermann was Pinterest’s first engineer. He previously worked at Silicon Valley companies like Google and Facebook before leaving Yahoo for Pinterest, where he joined as CTO before becoming CEO.

Silbermann’s net worth increased by $400 million on Wednesday, after Bloomberg News reported that the firm that offers payment services may be looking to purchase Pinterest in a deal worth $45 billion. Pinterest’s shares jumped 13 per cent on Wednesday, which is its biggest single-day gain in nearly an entire year.
